THE WORK OF GOD

John 6:28-29 (AMPC, GNB, TPT)

..What are we to do, that we may […] be working the works of God? […] Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger]…”What can we do in order to do what God wants us to do?” Jesus answered, “What God wants you to do is to believe in the one he sent.” *..“So what should we do if we want to do God’s work?” Jesus answered, “The work you can do for God starts with believing in the One he has sent.”

When we hear the term, ‘the work of God,’ so many things come into our minds, but the Bible says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts,” (Isa.55:8-9). Jesus told us clearly what the work of God is. The work of God is to believe in the One He sent (Jesus). The work of God is not primarily about engaging in various activities or forms of service. Like the Amplified Bible puts it, the work of God is to cleave, trust, rely on and have faith in Jesus. This is the first and most important thing that should come to your mind when you think about doing the work of God or pleasing God.

God’s priority is not about what you need to do for Him, but about your believing and accepting what He has done for you through Jesus. Until you value and believe in what God has done for you through Jesus, you cannot really know and be enabled to serve God and please Him as you should. For God is at work in you, making you willing and able to do His good will, (Phil.2:13). Until you know what God is doing in you, you cannot work it out. You can only work out what you know and believe that God has worked into you through Christ.

When you believe in Jesus, you enter into His works. Everything He has done begins to speak for you and manifest in your life. Without Him, you can do nothing, (John 15:5). The more you focus on Jesus and grow in the knowledge of what He has done for you, the more you will cleave to Him, trust Him, rely on Him and have faith in Him.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I believe in Jesus and all He has done for me. Please fill my heart with the revelation of the wonderful things that Jesus has done for me.
