Things the Lord Hate
by Dr. (Mrs) Lizzy Johnson-Suleman
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Genesis 37-40
TEXT: “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.” – Proverbs 6 :16 – 17.
From the passage of scriptures Proverbs 6 :16 – 19; in a series, we shall be examining the things God hates, the seven things which are an abomination to Him in order to perfect our ways before Him.
From the second verse of our anchor text, the first thing God hates is A PROUD LOOK. A proud look looks down on others as inferior or not important.
It is a display of a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own superiority over others making them seem of less value. It is a posture of not ready to listen, submit or accept whatever opinion or instruction that comes from whoever. It is a conduct of pride, the look of a proud person. No wonder scripture says, “…for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” 1 Pet. 5 :5.
In other words, if you are a proud person, someone that is haughty or better still a person that moves about with a proud look, you have God as an enemy.
God who you need to accept you and meet your heart desire is now the one striving against you, opposing you. And if God is in such position against anyone, can that person survive? That is why every proud person ends up falling because God Himself ensures that.
2 Samuel 22 :28; says God’s eyes are upon the haughty (the proud) that he may bring them down. So you can imagine! Rather than the eyes of God be on you to show Himself strong on your behalf it is now monitoring you to bring you down. All through scriptures, the end of a proud man is the ground no matter how high he was initially. “A man’s pride shall bring him low…” Prov. 29 :23.
“When pride cometh, then cometh shame…” Prov. 11 :2. Please don’t accommodate pride in you or display it in anyway.
PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, every spirit of pride in me, I cast you out by fire.
