Timing Is Everything: And They Were Glad!

MARCH 5, 2022

And they said to the messengers who came, “Thus you shall say to the men of Jabesh Gilead: ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have help.’” Then the messengers came and reported it to the men of Jabesh, and they were glad.
1 Samuel 11:9

In 1 Samuel 11, the citizens of Jabesh Gilead feared destruction by the Ammonites. The village men, women, and children offered themselves as slaves in order to be spared, but they also sent word to the newly anointed King Saul, begging for help. When Saul received the message, the Holy Spirit came upon him. His messengers galloped into town, telling the people, “Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have help.” 

And they were glad!

God knows exactly when we need help, and He sends it in a timely manner. Timing is everything, and God’s timing is perfect to the second. If the Ammonites are encircling you—if you have pressures, problems, burdens, and crises—tell the Lord you need help before the sun becomes too hot. He will give grace to help in the moment of need—and we are very glad!

Man’s perfect timing highlights the craftiness of man; God’s perfect timing highlights the provision of God.
