TIPS TO BUILDING YOUR HOME (1)
Dear Reader,
Welcome to another exciting month of June! There is no doubt God has been faithful to you and your family. I pray that as you apply the truth from this article, your home will experience beauty and splendour in Jesus’ name. This week, I shall be examining Tips to Building Your Home.
An important factor of society is marriage and family, and as such, the conversation about this two cannot be neglected or outdated. Apart from the relationship between Jesus Christ and a believer, the marriage relationship should be the most beautiful and sought-after form of relationship. However, we are bombarded with the news of breakdowns in homes and marriages daily. The devil has ensured that fear, torment, disagreement and every negative ordeal has become a normal lifestyle in homes across the earth. That is why the need for courage to build our homes is so vital. Courage is simply the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty without fear, and it also incorporates boldness, fearlessness and tenacity (persistent determination).
In the natural, having a successful home might be far-fetched, but with God on our side, all things are possible. We can always depend on Him to help us through the journey. One of my favourite scriptures in the Bible is the book of Joshua. In Chapter 1, God told Joshua he would lead the Israelites to the Promised land. God knew that such a task could make anyone afraid, so He kept stressing the necessity for boldness and courage to Joshua. While stating that, He told him something that would be vital for his success in the assignment. Verse 8 states: This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. Joshua needed the Word of God to succeed. In the same vein, we also need the Word of God to stand out in the affairs of our homes. God has given us some vital tools I believe would make all the difference in our family life if applied.
Let us examine one important Tool in Building a Successful Home:
- Wisdom. The Word says: A wise woman builds her house but a foolish one tears it down with her own hands (Proverbs 14:1). God is specifically referring to the wives, but I believe it applies to the husbands also because wisdom is a requirement. Another favorite scripture of mine about wisdom is: Through wisdom is an house builded… (Proverbs 24:3). So, what is wisdom? It is simply knowing what to do and doing it. My husband, Bishop David Oyedepo, defines it as having an answer for the hard situations in life. When a difficult situation comes up, a man or woman filled with wisdom can tackle it. Kindly note that the type of wisdom I am emphasising is the wisdom from above. The Word says: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him (James 1:5).God is the giver of wisdom, so if you lack wisdom, ask Him. According to Scripture, the wisdom from above ispure, peaceable, gentle, full of mercy, etc. The Word says: But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy (James 3:17). So, if you will practice all of the above in your family life, it will make all the difference.
However, to have access to the wisdom from above, you must be born again. If you are not, please say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now, I know I am born again!
