Memorise: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15
Bible Reading: Genesis 13:10-12
10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
Bible Reading In One Year: Psalms 38-40; Acts 23:12-35
MESSAGE:
Today’s study is instructive. It also teaches us salient Bible principles which remind us that there are dangers in the world. The things of the world may appear very fascinating. The sights may be dazzling and filled with things that appear irresistible. But it is all a ploy of the devil to entice you. If you fall for the bait, you will be in trouble. Lot fell for the devils ploy when he chose the plain of Jordan because he saw that it was well watered, forgetting that it was close to Sodom. At the end, he realized that any affinity with the people of the world will always end up with a problem. Lots choice was his undoing.
Dear child, as you go through life, the things of the world such as dressing, partying, music et cetera may look attractive while Christian living will sometimes seem boring, outdated and strict.
But that is exactly what the devil wants you to think. There is nothing boring about living a life that pleases your maker. You need to always bear in mind that we are just passersby on this earth. Our home is heaven. Stay focused on that.
Prayer Point:
Father, please remove the love of the world from my heart today and replace it with Your love in Jesus name.
Hymn: Christian Seek Not Yet Repose
- Christian, seek not yet repose,
Hear thy guardian angel say,
”Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray! - Principalities and powers,
Mustering their unseen array,
Wait for thine unguarded hours:
“Watch and pray! - Gird thy heavenly armour on,
Wear it every night and day,
Ambushed lies the evil one:
”Watch and pray! - Hear the victors who overcame;
Still they mark each warrior’s way,
AII with one sweet voice exclaim,
“Watch and pray! - Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou lovest to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word,
”Watch and pray! - Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
“Watch and pray!
