“Therefore, David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.” 1 Samuel 17:51 KJV
We are all involved in a battle to defeat an enemy. But we must understand the nature of our warfare. Our warfare is a battle between two opposing forces. It is the battle between the devil and Jesus. The first Adam fought, and he was defeated. He wasn’t able to stand on the Word that was spoken.
According to the Word of God: man was created in God’s image and likeness, and given dominion over the fish, the sea and all the stuff on earth. Psalm 82:6 puts it thus: “I have said, Ye are gods, and all of you are children of the Most High”. (KJV)
In chapter 2 of the book of Genesis, we see Adam exercising dominion, naming all the animals, working about and throwing his weight around in the garden. Then the enemy came and said are you sure you are like God? I doubt if you are like God! How can you be like God! You cannot be like God! You’ve got to do something to be like Him. You don’t just feel like God because you want to be you’ve got to do something. And then doubt set in! Adam stopped believing God and ate the fruit. And the bible says: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. (Romans 3:23 KJV). All of us became subject to the devil.
The devil understands this principle of the federal head. That was why Goliath requested for one man amongst the Israelites fight him. If Goliath wins, the Philistines win. If the man that represents Israel wins, the Israelites win. And notice that the moment the Philistines saw that Goliath was defeated, they fled, and the Israelites went after them in pursuit and to spoil their camp.
Under the New Testament, our Federal Head, Jesus had won. Therefore, all of us are winners automatically. Stop running from the devil. He is a defeated foe. The lion you are hiding from has no teeth. Understand your position and step into the valley to confront your Goliath. You are already an overcomer because of the victory Christ has purchased on our behalf.
