“Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase” – Proverbs 3:9
Honour with your substance by presenting something physical, substantial and usable. Honour with your substance by presenting a usable gift to a person. Many gifts are unusable.
Many people have vases, crystal bowls and unused crockery in their homes. Sometimes, they have wedding presents that have never been opened or used. Most of these presents are in faded cardboard boxes. People love to present these unusable items as gifts. Special chocolate that no one in their houses can eat, is presented to you as an exotic gift. What you must realise is that what is unusable to you is also unusable to me!

…saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, wherein have we despised thy name? Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, the table of the Lord is contemptible. And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? Offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the Lord of hosts. Malachi 1:6-8
Notice the scripture above. The prophet warns about presenting blind and lame animals which are no longer useful to the Lord. If you don’t want these animals as part of your flock, why do you present them as a gift on the altar?
Honour God with your substance by paying your tithes and offerings and supporting the work of God. What you cannot use in your house, God cannot use!
