VITAL BASICS OF WALKING IN THE SPIRIT

Galatians 5:16 (TPT), Galatians 5:24-25 (NLT)

As you yield freely and fully to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit, you will abandon the cravings of your self – life. *Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

One reason many believers are unable to walk in holiness is that all they are doing is trying not to fulfill the lusts of the flesh. We do not overcome the flesh by trying not to yield to the flesh; rather, we overcome the flesh by walking in (yielding to) the Spirit. “For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,” (Rom.8:13, NIV). It is ONLY by the power of the Spirit you can overcome the flesh.

The beginning of walking in the Spirit is death. Knowing that you were included in the death of Christ and as such, you have died to your former sinful life. You are a new creature now. You are one with Christ. The next phase of walking in the Spirit is knowing and acknowledging everything you are in Christ. Who you are, what you have, where you are now in the Spirit, and all you can do; all because of Christ. You cannot walk in the Spirit until you can see and know who you really are in the spirit/in Christ. It is based on who you are in the spirit/Christ that the Spirit will lead you. To see and know who you are in the spirit/Christ you have to keep renewing your mind.

Until you put on Christ in your mind, you cannot put away sin and reflect Christ from your life and actions, (Col.3:8-10, Eph.4:23-24).

Prayer:
Father, I thank you that I died with Christ and I have a new life now. Please fill my heart with the revelation of who I am in Christ.
