Walk in the Light

1 John 1:7 (NKJV) But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 2:5-6, 9-10 (NKJV) But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. 9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

The word ‘walk’ in the Bible, does not refer to the physical waling steps that we take. It refers to the way we think, talk, act and behave. It refers to the way we live our entire lives. To walk in the light therefore means to live our lives in a way that radiates the light and life of God. God wants us to walk in the light in the same way that He walks in the light. God wants us to walk or live our entire lives with the consciousness that we are in Christ and we are one with Him. To walk in the light is to live our lives in line with the ways of God. When a person is walking physically, he changes position or moves from where he is. As you walk in the ways of God, you will progress in the character and nature of God.

A major reflection that we are walking in the light is that we are walking in love because God is love. 1 John 2:9-10, says whoever hates his brother is still in darkness and whoever loves his brother is in the light and will not stumble. Reflect God’s love that you have received unto others. Light and darkness cannot go together. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, 2 Cor. 6:14. You may not be able to avoid relating with unbelievers but you must not join them to do anything evil. In Ephesians 5:11-12 (NIV) the Bible says, “Having nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.” Love righteousness and hate iniquity, Heb. 1:9. When light shines, darkness goes away and darkness has no power over light, John 1:5. God has delivered you from the power of darkness (Col. 1:13) and the more you receive the light of God’s truth concerning you in Christ, the more you will exercise your victory.
