WALK IN THE LIGHT

“But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin” 1 John 1:7 KJVBeloved, as believers, we have been called to walk in the light. Though this chapter was addressing the unbelievers, verse 7 addresses the state of believers. Hence it started with the word, “but”.The believer has been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of light. We are already in the light as believers. And as we continue to walk in the light of what Christ has done on our behalf, we are under what is like a water fall of the blood of Jesus. The word, ‘cleanses’ is a present-continuous tense. In other words, on a daily basis you are being cleansed.1John 2:1 addresses believers: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.”(KJV). That is the life of a believer. You don’t go and make practice of sin. As you appreciate the grace of God, you will not sin. “…And if any man sin…” that means, there is a possibility to sin. The challenge is that we classify sin. So we have big sin and small sin. But the truth is that sin is sin. If you are angry with somebody or you worry, you have sinned. If you talk badly of somebody, you have sinned. More often than not, we focus on fornication and killing, but let’s look at the day to day issues. If sin has to be judged, then sin is sin, either small or big.God understands our nature as humans and knows that we are making efforts to live for him. But even with all our efforts, we are still living in the presence of sin. Remember that sin is so powerful that it broke into the presence of God. If sin can break into the presence of a Holy God, the Almighty God himself, who are you to think that you can withstand sin? That is why we should appreciate the Cross because Jesus settled it on the cross.Further Reading: 1 Peter 2:4-12; 1 John 2:1-11Daily Bible Reading: Morning- Ezekiel 24-26; Evening- 1 Peter 2
