Daily Devotional: 6th November “WATCH & PRAY”

READ: Luke 6:6-16

And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles – Luke 6:12-13

To watch and pray is to pray at night or at dawn. Praying in the night is called “watching and praying”. It is more important to learn to watch and pray than it is to fast and pray. This is because
watching and praying ensures that you pray every day.

1. Jesus taught people to watch and pray. Take ye heed, watch and pray: . . . Mark 13:33

2. Jesus Christ practiced watching and praying. He prayed without ceasing. And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed
Mark 1:35

3. Watching and praying gives you strength to be able to overcome temptations. Jesus prayed in the night in Gethsemane. Watch and pray, THAT YE ENTER NOT INTO TEMPTATION: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak Matthew 26:41

4. Watching and praying grants you divine escapes from many evils. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, THAT YE MAY BE ACCOUNTED WORTHY TO ESCAPE ALL THESE THINGS that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man Luke 21:36

5. Watching and praying causes you to be spiritually ready for surprises. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is Mark 13:33

6. Watching and praying gives you strength to overcome the flesh. Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. Mark 14:38
