WATCH YOUR ATTITUDE
“And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.” Genesis 25:33 KJV
According to the book of Genesis 25, Isaac and his wife gave birth to two children. The first born was Esau and the second was Jacob. In Israel, being the firstborn is a very serious thing because he carries the mantle of the family and whenever things are shared, he will receive double. It is a very important position. The first born is like the king or priest of the house. I believe Isaac must have been sharing with his sons how to comport their lives for things to be well with them.
According to Genesis 25:27-30: “And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter; a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. And Isaac loved Esau because he did eat of his venison but Rebecca loved Jacob. And Jacob sod pottage and Esau came from the field. And he was faint: Esau said to Jacob, feed me I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint…” Jacob asked Esau for his birthright in exchange for a plate of pottage. Remember the parents had been teaching them about birthright. “And Esau said, behold, I am at the point to die; what profit shall this birthright do to me? …Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright” (Genesis 25:32 & 34 KJV).
Esau sold his birthright! He despised and trivialized his spiritual heritage. May you not sell your birthright! Let me remind you that we are at war and you are the devil’s target. Esau eventually lost the blessing. First, he lost his birthright and when the father was about to die, he lost the blessing. All this happened because his zeal and passion had disappeared. The fire was no more there. Beloved, you must be careful with your attitude towards God and the Kingdom. The world cannot become more attractive to you than God.
