We Are All From Dust

“Jesus looked at him and loved him.” Mark 10:21

No matter your nationality, economic status, education, or where you were born, you were made from dust. You may think you have nothing in common with a person who is living a sinful life, but we all come from the same dirt.

The church should be filled with “dirty” people in need of Jesus. Start seeing hurting people with eyes of love instead of eyes of disgust. Every one of us came from dust, and we would all be lost had it not been for God’s unfailing love.

We have to be compassionate for the woman who just had her marriage end in divorce, the teenager addicted to drugs, and the homeless man living out of the shelter. Somebody’s got to be willing to reach these people. It is not God’s will that any should perish. We can get so self-righteous and uppity that we begin to look down on people who are in struggle. You are wrong if you think they are so different from you. God’s grace rescued you. You were in the same boat as the person who does not yet know God. It was His goodness and mercy that led you from dirt to becoming a child of the Most High King.

In John 9, a blind man named Bartimaeus was sitting by the road, and when he heard that Jesus was passing through, he began to scream, “Have mercy on me!” The religious leaders told this dirty, unsightly man to shut up because he wasn’t important enough to bother Jesus, but Bartimaeus just screamed louder. Jesus stopped and took time to heal the man. He did the same with the Samaritan woman who had been divorced five times, even though Jews didn’t typically speak to Samaritans in that day. He even took the time to heal one of the guards who was leading Him to His death! Then, on the cross, as He was dying, He told the thief beside Him who asked for mercy, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” No one was too “dirty” or too “low” for Jesus. Where people see dirt, God sees potential!
