“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.“ – Matthew 9:36 (NKJV)
There are occupational hazards in every field of endeavour. In hospitals, doctors often acquire the diseases of their patients. Sometimes the doctor even dies from the patients’ diseases. Likewise, many shepherds acquire the diseases of sheep. Sometimes, the shepherds suffer from more severe variants of illnesses of the sheep.
This is because “shepherds” are also “sheep”. All “shepherd” pastors are under the lordship and leadership of the chief shepherd Jesus Christ. This is what makes shepherds also sheep.
Most shepherds and pastors are usually submitted to the leadership of other ministers. Because they must submit and follow, shepherds suffer from the same problems that sheep do. As I have said already , some shepherds even have more serious “sheep diseases” than the sheep themselves. Weariness is one of the diseases of sheep.
Weariness is equally a disease of shepherds. One of the strategies of the devil is to wear out the saints and make them tired. “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time” (Daniel 7:25).
The cure for weariness is the Word of God. It is like rain and snow that cools and refreshes; it drives away weariness. The refreshing and calming effect that a time in the presence of God produces, cannot be compared with anything.
