WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF YOUR JOY?

Jeremiah 15:16, Zephaniah 3:16-17
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts. *In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear … not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

What things make you joyful as a person? If you can be very deliberate and clear about this, no matter what is going on around you, you’ll be able to focus on the things that make you joyful and you will remain joyful always.

It is also critical that we base our joy on the right things; things that are stable and constant/eternal. When your joy is based on the wrong or temporal things, you will lose your joy and be down just like the rest of the world. But if your joy is founded on the right things, even when people are cast down and hopeless, you will say there is a lifting up and you will remain hopeful (Job 22:29).

There are so many things that your joy should not be based on. Some examples are material things you have or do not have, (Matt.6:31-32). The way people treat you is another example, (Heb.12:3, Matt.10:22). Remember how Joseph’s brothers betrayed him and also how Potiphar’s wife falsely accused him? Your emotions or the way you feel per time should also not limit your joy, (Phil.4:11-12). Train yourself to rejoice in the Lord always, no matter how you feel, (Phil.4:4). If the joy of Paul and Silas was based on any of these things above there is no way they could have prayed and sang to God in the prison the way they did, (Acts 16:25).

Prayer:
Please help me, Father, to stop basing my joy on things like money, how I feel, how people treat me, or what is going on around me.
