WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION FOR SERVICE?
“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve on another.” 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)
I remember when our ministry started and the church was growing as God was helping us. We were preparing for our annual flagship program. The music department was busy rehearsing for the program. They still had a lot to prepare but suddenly, all the musicians and some older choristers left. They tried to blackmail me but they didn’t realize that I wouldn’t fall for it. As far as I am concerned, I am ready to clap hands as long as Jesus is glorified. Looking into the matter, it was obvious they had no cogent reasons to back out, just some human elements trying to take undue advantage. Afterwards, some talented persons who were new in the choir took over. During the conference, they ministered that same song they had been preparing for and the delivery was powerful. That is what Jesus can do!
In Kingdom assignment, God always has alternatives because there can be no vacuum in the Kingdom. So, when God gives you an opportunity to serve, you need to humble yourself and serve. It’s always a blessing to serve. Today, when you ask some people to do anything in the kingdom of God, they want money for everything. When I answered the call, I was working in the bank and earned very well at that time. But when I left the bank to join the ministry, I was not given any remuneration. I wasn’t even thinking where the next meal will come from. Money was not the motivation neither was reward the motivation; I was just happy to serve and be used by God.
Sometimes, someone is given an assignment and he or she inflates the cost. This can happen in any denomination; that’s the society we live in today. The zeal is gone. The commitment and addiction to the Kingdom is hardly seen. We need Kingdom addicts in today’s church. We need people who can go any length for the Kingdom any time, any day.
