WHAT SHOULD BE THE BASIS OF YOUR JOY (1)

Habakkuk 3:17-19a

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive… fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.

We discussed the importance of being careful about what we base our joy on yesterday, and we saw some things we should not base our joy on. Today, we’ll look at what we should be grateful for. As Christians, we should base our joy on so many constant and eternal things.

The first of them is God Himself – in so many ways; from His great love for you, to His mighty presence and power with you, to His great promises and plans for you. In our text above, Habakkuk said even when things around him were not working out as he planned, he would rejoice in the LORD and joy in the God of his salvation. He went on to say the Lord God was his strength.

We must learn how to rejoice by faith about the things that God rejoices about. God wants us to join Him in His joy. Do you know that God is rejoicing over you right now? (Zeph.3:17). There are things God sees and knows about you that you don’t see or know about yourself. God is rejoicing over you because of whom He has made you in Christ and because of the things that are going to happen in and through your life because of what He sent Christ to do for you. God also rejoices when the Gospel is preached and people get saved, (Luke 15:7). This is why He sent Jesus to the Cross. Always rejoice about this.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please help me to always see as you see and to rejoice about the things you rejoice about.
