WHAT SHOULD BE THE BASIS OF YOUR JOY (2)

Jeremiah 15:16, Zephaniah 3:16-17

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts. *In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear … not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Something amazing happened in Luke 10:17-24. The disciples returned from an outreach and they were so happy that they could exercise authority over evil spirits. Jesus then told them that instead of rejoicing that evil spirits were subject to them, they should rejoice that their names were written in heaven. After telling them this, Jesus rejoiced in His spirit because of what He had just revealed to them.

Even though they could not see their names written in heaven, their names were written there because of Jesus. Jesus wanted them to rejoice over that spiritual reality more than over what they could see physically, (demons being subject to them). One major source of our rejoicing is receiving the revelation of Christ. As we eat these truths like our first text above says, they produce joy in our hearts. In John 15:11, Jesus said “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”

The Holy Spirit is another major source of our joy. “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” He spreads God’s love in our hearts (Rom.5:5) and reveals the deep things on God’s mind to us, (1Cor.2:9-10). He glorifies Christ in our lives by taking all that belongs to Christ and revealing them to us, (John 16:13-15).

Faith Declaration:
By the revelation of Christ I receive and the operation of God’s Spirit in me, my life is always filled with joy!
