When You Doubt

Oct 06, 2021

Today’s Scripture

Matthew 11:2–3, NLTJohn the Baptist, who was in prison…sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?

Today’s Word

John the Baptist had declared Jesus to be the Lamb of God, had seen the Spirit of God descend like a dove on Jesus, and had heard a voice from heaven say, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Yet later, when John was in prison, he started having doubts and sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was really the Messiah. John was vulnerable and honest, and Jesus wasn’t the least disappointed in him. He understood what John was going through and answered with assurance.

When you have doubts and questions, fears and struggles, be honest about it. Faith doesn’t exempt you from life. Faith doesn’t make you not feel things. When you’re honest with God about your doubts, your shortcomings, and your fears, that’s not a weakness, that’s a strength. The first step to overcoming a weakness is to get it out in the open. When you humble yourself and ask God for help, He will give you strength to overcome what you couldn’t overcome.

Prayer for Today

Father, thank You that I don’t have to hide my weaknesses, doubts, fears, or shortcomings. Thank You that Your power goes to work in me when I am honest. I humbly admit that I don’t have it all together, but I’m glad You’re still working on me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
