[What, what would have become of me] had I not believed that I would see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living!— Psalm 27:13 (AMPC)
We have all been disappointed at some time. It would be surprising if we went through the week without encountering some kind of disappointment. We are “appointed” (set in a certain direction) for something to happen a certain way, and when it doesn’t happen that way, we become “disappointed.”
Disappointment not dealt with turns into discouragement. If we stay discouraged very long, we are liable to become devastated, and devastation leaves us unable to handle anything. Many devastated Christians live defeated lives because they have not learned how to handle disappointment. The devastation they are experiencing most likely began with a minor disappointment that was not dealt with properly.
It is not God’s will for us to live disappointed, devastated, or oppressed. When we become “dis-appointed,” we can choose to become “re-appointed” to keep from becoming discouraged, then devastated.
When we learn to place our hope and confidence in Jesus the Rock (see 1 Corinthians 10:4) and resist the devil at his onset (see 1 Peter 5:8–9), we can live in the joy and peace of the Lord, free from discouragement.
Prayer Starter: Father, I know that disappointment, discouragement and devastation does not come from You. Help me to always put my hope and confidence in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
