When Your Cup Runs Dry

February 1, 2024

“Elijah said to her, ‘Don’t be afraid…For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry…’” 1 Kings 17:13-14

What is your default reaction when your finances have run out, and you can’t figure out how you will pay the bills? Do you worry, or do you pray?

In I Kings 17, God told his prophet Elijah to find a certain widow, and she would provide him with food and shelter. However, when Elijah found the widow, she told him that she had no food and she was preparing for her and her son to die of starvation. God gives the widow a message of hope, letting her know that everything will be alright. He promises that their food will stay supplied.

God doesn’t want you to be full of anxiety. Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”

Prayer is the most powerful thing that you can do. Prayer moves the heart of God and drives back the devil. When you pray, God’s promises in your life are activated.

The Bible tells us that there was daily food for the widow and her family. Decide today that you will believe God’s promises instead of worrying. Worry accomplishes nothing, but prayer can change everything.
