Why do you do what you do?
Philippians 1:20 (AMPC), Matthew 5:16
This is … my own eager desire and persistent expectation and hope, that I shall not disgrace myself nor be put to shame in anything; but that with the utmost freedom of speech and unfailing courage, now as always heretofore, Christ (the Messiah) will be magnified and get glory and praise in this body of mine and be boldly exalted in my person, whether through (by) life or through (by) death. *Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
The reason why you do whatever you do is very important. God wants the reason why we do everything we do to be that we bring Him glory. We were created for God’s glory. Isaiah 43:7 (NLT) declares, “Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them.” The Good News Bible says, “They are my own people, and I created them to bring me glory.” This should be the greatest driving force and our utmost desire in everything that we do. All things were made for God’s pleasure, (Rev.4:20). Everything we do should bring God pleasure and glory. Beginning from the thoughts of our hearts down to our words and actions. David said, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer,” (Psa.19:14). Jesus did all that He did to bring glory to God the Father and He expects us to do the same.
In John 17:4, Jesus said this to God the Father in prayer, “I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” Our life is no longer our own. It is no longer us living but Christ living through us, (Gal.2:20). It is the love of Christ that should control our lives now because we died with Him and He died for us so that we would no longer live for ourselves but for Him who died and rose again for us, (2Cor.5:14).
The reason why God wants our light to so shine is so that men will glorify Him and come to know Him. God wants your life to attract people to Him. As you make this your desire and driving force, God will empower you and shine His glory through you like never before.
Prayer:
Tell God that your life belongs to Him and that you want the love of Christ to control your life. Tell God you desire to glorify Him at all times.
