WINNING YOUR UNBELIEVING SPOUSE TO CHRIST (2)
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the second edition of Winning Your Spouse to Christ. In the previous edition, we examined how you could engage the altar of prayer to get your unbelieving spouse saved. Do you remember that old proverb that says, ‘Action speaks louder than words?’ There is a life that speaks! Its voice is louder than the sound from the vocal cavity of man, and it gets an unbelieving husband or wife saved. It ministers and brings glory to God. It is the kind of life that every believer must live in the home, at work, at the market place and everywhere so that sinners can be magnetised into the Kingdom of God.

Your life is the greatest witness, especially to your spouse. Your unbelieving spouse will always consciously or unconsciously watch to see what you preach in your actions. So, your actions should speak louder than your words. Another effective way to win your spouse’s heart for Jesus is by living A LIFE THAT SPEAKS. Your Christian life must portrays a good example of the fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23says, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. If you live a Christian life, having these characteristics will influence your spouse and even other relations. Without opening your mouth to witness to them (even though it is scriptural to witness to them), they will be attracted to the Kingdom of God. These characteristics must replace every other negative attitude, and they must be clearly seen by him/her and everyone. Jesus, our role model for winning souls, expects us to live a life worthy of emulation. God’s Word in Matthew 5:16says, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. I have had opportunities to counsel people who have unsaved loved ones, and I discovered that quite a number of them do not live lives that speak right in their homes. I once met a woman who was having problems with her husband’s salvation, and from my discussion with her, I discovered that the way she used her tongue in the home had constituted the major obstacle to the man’s salvation. Brethren, be chaste in your conversation! Women are usually guilty of this. As long as you keep nagging, your unsaved husband will not even like you to be around him after a while. This may even lead to divorce in a home. So, do not let your tongue be a trap to your loved ones; let it be an asset!
Living a Christian life is not as convenient but compulsory. You have a job to do. So, a woman who is married to an unbeliever, and probably a drunkard, would need to fall on her knees and take the situation to God in prayers. She would also need to follow up prayers with a practice of the fruits of the Spirit. Nagging, insulting, abusing or cursing the man will only push him deeper into his sins. Remember, whatever happens to him will also affect you in the long run. Therefore, let your life be a living proof of the characteristics of the fruits of the Spirit. Let love, gentleness and meekness be your stronghold. Let it move you to prayers and watching out for your unbelieving spouse even in a terrible drunken state. I tell you, very shortly, he or she will come to realise the depth of your love and gentle character that he or she will not need too much lecture on turning over a new leaf. Let your actions be the one that speaks patience, temperance, faith and very shortly God will touch your spouse’s heart by His power as written in John 6:44, which says, No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Here is a testimony that will inspire you:
While preparing for the Women Convention, I prayed and told God I wanted my family renewed, and I was tired of the name I was called; I was called the wife of an unbeliever. Before the convention began, God did a great thing; He changed my husband! On the last of the convention, which was a Breakthrough Night Service, my husband said, ‘we have to go to church’. We came to church together, and that day, he gave his life to Christ. Now, he has stopped smoking, and everything has changed in his life. He is now a newborn! Meanwhile, during the special ministration sessions at the convention, I stood in the gap for him using my neck chain. When I got home, I placed the chain on his neck and placed my anointed forehead on his. Lo and behold, my husband that had always criticised speaking in tongues, began to prophesy and spoke in tongues! I return all the glory to God! – Efemuaye L.
I see God do the same for you, in Jesus name! With Him, all things are possible. So embrace Him today, and He will turn the life of your spouse around for good. However, to embrace God, you have to be born again by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. If you are set, prayer, please say this prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. I cannot help myself. Forgive my sins and cleanse me with Your blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I believe You died for me, and on the third day, You rose that I might be justified. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into your kingdom.
Congratulations, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave or forsake you. With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace, in Jesus name!
