MEMORISE: “Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?” – 1 Corinthians 1:19

READ: 1 Corinthians 1:19-20

19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Amos 7-8 ; Revelation 7

MESSAGE:

Although wisdom and foolishness are at separate ends, for the One who controls wisdom, it takes nothing to move somebody from one extreme to the other. 1 Corinthians 1:19-20 “For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent”.

Many years ago, when I was in secondary school, there was professor of history at Ilesha who had lost his mind. Whenever we wanted to learn real history, we would buy him a keg of palm wine and he will ask us what part of history we wanted to hear, then he will begin to relay history to the point to the point that we will be the one to beg him to stop.

Are you arrogant? Have you acquired knowledge so much that you now use it to question every authority even God’s? You are onyourangerous path. Your knowledge should be used to enlarge God’s kingdom and improve welfare of others. Don’t let that knowledge become your undoing.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, no matter how much I know, help me never to become proud.

Hymn 8:

  1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
    In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
    Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
    Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
  2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
    Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
    Thy justice like mountains high soaring above,
    Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
  3. To all life thou givest to both great and small;
    In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
    We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
    And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.
  4. Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light,
    Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
    All laud we would render; o help us to see;
    ‘Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.
  5. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
    In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
    Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
    Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
