Child of God, sin hinders excellence. It is an enemy of it. To be involved in sin, i transgression is to be far from excellence. Remember in the curse of this teaching that excellence is by the Spirit, that it is not a function of might. So if that be the Holy Spirit who is holy cannot help a man who is involved in iniquity.
