Working With or Against Jesus’ Authority

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel. – (Genesis 3:15)

As a result of Adam and Eve’s sin, they lost out on God’s intent for their work in His kingdom (>Genesis 3:8–24). They got kicked out of Eden, much like Satan got kicked out of heaven. But even in the midst of His judgment, God let Adam and Eve know it would not always be like this. He gave them the promise of a Redeemer who would reverse the curse of sin (Genesis 3:15).

Jesus will also reverse the effects of Satan’s and mankind’s rebellion against God’s kingdom when He comes to rule in His kingdom. When you honor Jesus as Lord of the kingdom agenda, it opens up the floodgate of both His power and authority to be made manifest in your life on earth.

Lucifer, the once shining star, set out to set up a rival kingdom and a rival throne to the one, true God. As a result, he lost not only his position but his authority in God’s king- dom. Now, God has given you the opportunity—through aligning yourself under Him—to demonstrate all that can be done through a lesser being who is fully committed to the manifestation of His glory and the advancement of His kingdom.

Reflection: What is the difference between God’s judgment of Satan and His judg- ment of Adam and Eve? (Read >Genesis 3:15.) How did Jesus’death and resurrection cancel the rebellion in the garden for those who believe? What does it mean to have authority from God?

Jesus Christ, thank You for Your ability to reverse the effects of rebellion against God whether that comes from Satan or humanity—including myself. Thank You that You embody the hope we all need to know that things are going to be okay. I commit myself to align my thoughts, heart, and actions under God and His comprehensive rule over every area of my life.
