Worthy Guides

August 9, 2024

If the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.
Matthew 15:14

 Recommended Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10

On December 27, 1862, Union officer David Stuart offered himself as a guide for a group of soldiers who had offloaded from the Mississippi River in Louisiana. Sadly, Stuart got lost, and the soldiers were fired on by their own men.

One shouldn’t trust a guide unless he knows exactly where he is going and how he is getting there. Before we can demonstrate God’s love to others, we need to make sure we know Him and His wonderful message. When we know Jesus Christ and are growing in our relationship with Him, He becomes our Guide as we guide others. We recognize that we are His workmanship, created to do good works. Ephesians 2:10 uses that very phrase to describe us—“His workmanship.” Other translations say we are His “handiwork,” His “masterpiece,” His “creation” (NIV, NLT, HCSB).

Praise God for the mercy He has lavished on you and the value He has given you. Then tell someone else how valuable they are to Christ as well. Let’s be guides who lead others to the Savior.

Leaders are meant to help others become the people God created them to be.
