You are a Child of the Light

1 Thessalonians 5:5 (NIV) You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do no belong to the night or to the darkness.

1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

John 1:3-4 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

John 8:12 The spake Jesus again unto then, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

The word light is usually associated with things that are good and pleasant, the word light means so much more to us as God’s children. Our second text above says God is light. Light is the totality of God’s essence, nature and personality. Because God is light, everything that comes out of Him is light and is good. James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is form above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” As you remain in fellowship with God-the Father of lights, He constantly fills your life with His light and His goodness and this makes us radiate His light and His goodness. We do not have any light or goodness of our own. In Psalms 36:9, David said, “For with You is the foundation of life; In Your light we see light.”

Another thing that the word light stands for in the Bible in the word of God. As you fellowship with God, His word enters you and as God’s word enters you, it gives you light, Psa. 119:130. As you pay attention to God’s word like a light shining in a dark place, God’s light arises in your heart and His light also prevails over your situation, 2 Pet. 1:19-20. The way God causes His light to shine in our hearts is opening our eyes and revealing to us His glory that is in the face of Jesus, 2 Cor. 4:6. As you keep your focus on Jesus, your life will be filled with the light of God. John 1:3-4 shows us that the life of Jesus gives us light. In John 8:12, Jesus said He is the light of the world and whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life. As you keep your focus on God and His word; especially the revelation of Jesus, the light, life and goodness of God will be continually stirred up in your life.

Prayer Focus:

Heavenly Father, I receive an overflow of your light and goodness right now as I fellowship with you. Fill me with your life and let it overflow from me.
