You Are Called Unto a Glorious Purpose

Genesis 12:1-2 (NIV), Matthew 4:18-19 (AMP)
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. *As He was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He noticed two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, throwing a dragnet into the sea, for they were fishermen. And He said to them, Come after Me [as disciples…], follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men!

The reason God came to and called Abraham was because God had a glorious purpose for Abraham’s life. On his own, Abraham may have intended to live a simple and quiet life that would take good care of himself, his family and his extended family. However, God had a bigger and better plan for his life. God wanted to make Abraham a great nation and bless him so that he could be a blessing. God wanted all nations of the earth to be blessed because of Abraham. Regarding Abraham’s call, God was the one responsible for making Abraham all that He wanted him to be. All Abraham needed to do was to believe God, have faith and fellow God’s leading to be all that God wanted him to be.

Similarly, God has a glorious purpose for your life and that is why He has called you. The way God called you was through the preaching of the gospel to you. “God called you to this through the Good News we preached to you; he called you to possess your share of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Thes.2:14). The plans that God has for your life are bigger and better than the plans you have for your life. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are God’s thoughts higher than your thoughts (Isa.55:9). Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard and minds have not imagined the kind of things that God has in store for you (1Cor.2:9). Just like it was with Abraham and just like Jesus said to His disciples in our second text above, it is God who will make and transform your life into that great purpose that He has for your life. All you have to do is follow Him by faith. Believe that as you give up your all and follow Jesus, He will make your life more glorious than all you have ever dreamed and desired.

Prayer:
I thank you, Lord, for the glorious purpose and plans you have for me. I yield myself to you and I am willing to fellow you and be all you want me to be.
