YOU ARE JUSTIFIED (1)

Romans 3:23-24 (KJV, NIV), Romans 5:1

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Knowing you are forgiven is one thing; knowing you are justified is quite another. There is a significant difference between the two. The first occurred when Christ died, and the second occurred when Christ was raised from the dead. According to Romans 4:25, Jesus “…was delivered for our transgressions, and was raised again for our justification.”

Being justified means being declared righteous/not guilty. When a person is forgiven, the person is guilty of the offence, but you chose to forgive or let go of the charges and punishment. However, when a person is justified, it means that the person is not at all guilty. The person is innocent, and he or she did not commit the offence. You are justified by your faith in Christ because when Christ died, your old man died with Him, and when Christ rose from the dead, a new and completely different you was raised up with Him – a saint. You are not simply a forgiven sinner; you are a saint – a new creature (with no past). The sinner has died!

Many people are familiar with the first verse of our first text, which states that all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory, but few are familiar with the second verse, which states that all are justified freely by God’s grace through faith in Christ and His redemptive work.

Prayer:
I thank you, Heavenly Father, that my old man died with Christ, and that when Christ rose from the dead, I rose with Him as a saint.
