YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN

December 17, 2021“…and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:20

For many people, holidays such as Christmas can be the loneliest time of the year.

Maybe you’re facing your first Christmas season after the loss of a loved one. Maybe a relationship or marriage ended and you’re attempting to find your “new normal” this Christmas. For others, family dysfunction can heighten feelings of isolation and loneliness. It’s no wonder sociologists claim that never before in history have so many people lived such close proximity yet felt so alone and forgotten.

Without a doubt, loneliness is a major problem.

If this topic strikes a chord with you, I offer you a proposal where one can be alone, but not lonely.

How?

At the root of all loneliness is separation from God. Years ago, a man named Augustine espoused that God made us for Himself and that is true.

Our souls are restless until we find rest in Him. We may try to fill the void with activities, crowds, and noise, but a nagging loneliness will always be there until we have a personal relationship with God.

In Matthew chapter 28, Jesus spoke to the heart of loneliness in His great commission saying that He would be with us no matter what – even “to the very end of the age.”

So, if feelings of loneliness begin to creep during this season, remember His promise. Because when we give our lives to Jesus in faith, He will be with us through every high and low of life.

Knowing this truth, you can be alone, but not lonely this Christmas season.
