YOU CAN BE BOTH EXCELLENT AND SPIRITUALLY FERVENT

Ephesians 5:14-18 (NLT), Romans 12:11 (NLT, CEV)

…”Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit. never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord.

Your zeal for God should not be a reason for you to be lazy or be a mediocre in any other area of your life. Also, the fact that you are hardworking and excellent in some area of your life should not make you lackadaisical about your spiritual life. You can and you should still be fervent spiritually. Do not sleep or be lazy in any area of your life. By the help of the Holy Spirit, you can be excellent in every area of your life. The fact that Daniel was excellent did not make him ignore his spiritual life, (Dan.6:3-4, 10). His colleagues could not find anything to hold against him in the way he did his work and despite the negative decree, he prayed and gave thanks three times a day, like he normally did. He was both excellent and spiritually fervent.

There is a lot that we can learn from the lives of the first deacons. The Bible says, “were of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, full of faith, full of God’s power and they did great wonders among the people” (Acts 6:3,5 & 8). They did not become this way because they wanted to be given any title, position or role to play among the believers. They also did not stop being that way after they were made deacons. This was just their normal way of life and to crown it all, this did not make them raise their shoulders and stop being submitted to the leadership of the early church. People who are truly excellent and spiritually fervent know how to remain humble and God keeps lifting them. Their faithfulness in secret led to their appointment as deacons.

God is not glorified by your lack of excellence in any area of your life. God wants people to see your good works in every area of your life and glorify Him.

Prayer:
Dear Father, I desire to be excellent and spiritually fervent. Give me the wisdom and enable me by your spirit to be excellent in all areas of my life.
