Blessed … is the man who fears (reveres and worships) the Lord … He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is firmly fixed, trusting (leaning on and being confident) in the Lord.— Psalm 112:1, 7 (AMPC)
One of the greatest ways God will sometimes speak to us is by giving us a deep, unshakeable peace. You might be facing situations where everyone around you is telling you to trust God and be at peace, but you’re struggling to actually let go of the worry. Fears are constantly screaming at you, unnerving you, and threatening you. Friends are saying, “Everything’s going to be okay,” but you find that hard to believe. If this is what you’re facing, I have been there. In 1989, I went to the doctor for a regular checkup. He discovered a fast-growing type of cancer, and recommended surgery immediately.
After I received this news, I struggled with tremendous fear, had trouble sleeping, and there were many times when anxiety hit me so hard that I thought I might fall down. No matter how many of my family members or friends reassured me, I still battled severe fear until about 3am one morning, when God spoke deep inside my heart and said, “Joyce, you can trust Me.” After that, I didn’t experience any sickening fear again. I was still a bit apprehensive as I waited for test results, but I was no longer terrified. I knew I was in God’s hands and whatever happened, He would take care of me.
As it turned out, I didn’t need further treatment after surgery. I ended up thankful instead of fearful, and that can happen in any situation when we receive the love and comfort of God.
If you’re dealing with a lot of fear and anxiety right now, I encourage you to ask Him to help you hear His voice and receive His peace, and He will. If He did it for me, He’ll do it for you!
Prayer Starter: Lord, please help me hear Your voice above the voice of fear. Thank You in advance for giving me the ability to trust You and to have peace in the middle of this storm. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
