For we brought nothing into the world, and obviously, we cannot take anything out of the world.— 1 Timothy 6:7 (AMPC)

Our society is filled to the brim with commerce, products and advertisement. Everyone seems too busy making money so they can buy more things. Sometimes I can hardly believe there are enough shoppers to buy everything that’s available.

We need to remember that things in and of themselves are not wrong, but they can become so if they lure us away from godly priorities. First Timothy 6:10 says: For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs (NIV).

Don’t get me wrong: God does want His children to be blessed, and He delights “in the prosperity of His servant” (Psalm 35:27 AMPC). But, as today’s verse reminds us, we came into the world empty-handed, and when we leave it, we can’t take anything with us. Knowing that, our focus should be on what we can take with us, or what will last in eternity. The more we have our focus on eternity, the more we’re willing to use our resources to bless others, and the more God will bless us so we can continue to be a blessing. His Word promises:

Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] your bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38 AMPC).

Prayer Starter: Father, please help me to enjoy Your blessings, but not to hoard them or put my entire focus on them. Help me to use the blessings You’ve given me to bless others and to build Your kingdom today. In Jesus’ Name, amen
