MESSAGE TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING PURPOSE
BY: DR. PAUL ENENCHE

SERVICE OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understanding purpose
  2. Understanding the profit of understanding purpose

THINGS TO NOTE FROM SCRIPTURES AS REGARDS PURPOSE:

  1. God is the God of time and purpose (Eccl. 3:1)
He has a purpose for what He does and a time for what He purposes
  2. God is deliberate, intentional, calculated and premeditated in all He does (Jer. 1:5)
  3. God is never flippant, superficial, shallow or thoughtless in what He does (Jer. 29:11)
  4. God is the God who purposes His acts and acts His purposes (Isa. 46:9-10; Acts 15:18)
  5. God is the God who does what will count and counts what He does (Gen. 1:16; Ps. 147:4; Luke 12:6-7)
  6. God is the God who ends before He begins and begins before He ends (Isa. 46:9-10; Ps. 139:14-16)

WHAT IS PURPOSE?

  1. Your purpose is the necessity that influenced your creation by God (1Sam. 16:1)
Your purpose is the reason for you in the world
  2. Your purpose is the desire or pleasure you were designed and created to fulfill for the Creator (Rev. 4:11)
  3. Your purpose is the assignment, mission or duty you were created to fulfil (Jer. 1:5)
Your purpose is that particular duty you were designed to pour your life’s labour, energy and time into
  4. Your purpose is the worth, benefit and value of your existence to both Divinity and humanity (1Sam. 18: 7; 2Sam. 18:1-3)
Your purpose is the justification of your existence
Your purpose is the gain, profit or merit of your life in the earth
Your purpose is that which makes you valuable in the earth
Your purpose is the value you are in the earth to create or add
Your purpose is the difference you are in the earth to make
  5. Your purpose is the sum total of the mark and impact you have been placed on the earth to make
Your purpose is the uniqueness and distinctiveness you are to bring to bear on your world
Imitations abound where people misunderstand their purpose for existence
  6. Your purpose is the outcome or end-product you are in existence to achieve (2Tim. 4:6-8)
Your purpose is the destination towards which your life is headed
Your purpose is the comprehensive program of God for your life in the earth

PROFITS OF UNDERSTANDING PURPOSE:

  1. Understanding purpose delivers people from the feeling of hopelessness, worthlessness and uselessness in life (Ps. 42:5; Job 14:14)
When you understand the purpose you were created to fulfil, you no longer live like an accident of creation
  2. Understanding purpose delivers people from the tragedy of the wasted life (Prov. 29:18)
The clear understanding of your purpose delivers you from living at random or leaving life to chance
  3. Understanding purpose helps to direct life’s energy, time and resources to what really matters to life (Phil. 3:13-14)
Understanding purpose brings focus and concentration to life
A distracted life is a purposeless life
  4. Understanding purpose delivers people from wrong companionships and relationships (Prov. 13:20; Dan. 217-18)
    Your purpose influences your partnerships
    Your assignment determines your alignment
  5. Understanding purpose delivers people from the plague of imitation and competition (2Cor. 10:12; Joel 2:7)
Imitation is limitation and competition is complication of life and destiny
There is a potential-productivity ratio that is a determinant of your purpose fulfilment
When you know your purpose, you are free from envy and competitive jealousy; when you know your purpose, you run in your lane
Every calling from God is a high calling; no calling is higher than the other
  6. Understanding purpose fuels pursuit and persistence in life (Hab. 2:1-3; Heb. 12:1-2)
Once you know what you are on earth to do, there is no plan B; you are empowered to be persistent in your pursuit.
You can change the plans but the purpose remains; Purpose is a constant, plan is variable

COUNSEL:

  1. Determine to understand God’s purpose for your life to avoid the tragedy of a wasted life (Jer. 33:3)
  2. Knowing that your most important purpose in life is spiritual and eternal, you must determine to live in a way that will make the most spiritual impact for time and eternity (Eccl. 12:7)
