WE ARE PRODUCTS OF MERCY AND GRACE
“So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.” (2 Samuel 9:13 KJV)
Beloved, every time you are struggling not to sin, you will sin more. But when you live your life free of struggle, but totally reliant on God, He will hold you with His Grace.
Mephibosheth must have felt seriously unqualified to sit at the King’s table because of his lameness. By assumption, David must have opened the tablecloth and said, ‘let me show you the legs of other people sitting at the table. Some of them are also lame in their legs. Some of them have broken legs. Some of have been amputated in their legs. What has covered them all, is just the table cloth, and when you sit at my table, the tablecloth will cover you also.
And so, Mephibosheth sat down. The tablecloth which represents God’s righteousness covered him. So whoever entered that room, will not see lameness because all the bad things are under the table.
Child of God, your sins are under the table. The Ark of the Covenant was a type of a casket and inside were all the emblems of man’s rebellion. Rebellion against God’s provision. This is represented by the golden pot that had manna. When God gave them manna, they said “what is this? Rebellion against God’s ordained authority. This is represented by the rod of Aaron that budded. Remember how they disobeyed Aaron and said, who are you, we also can hear from God. And of course, rebellion against the law of God. This is represented by the tables of the covenant.
These three item which were representations of our rebellions were put inside the Ark. And God covered them with mercy. So, anytime He wants to look at us, He sees us through the eyes of mercy. That was what God did for Mephibosheth and he received mercy. When God shows you mercy and you understand it, it will make you live for Him.
