TOPIC: DISCOVERING GOD’S PLAN FOR OUR LIVES (PART1)

TEXT: Acts 22:3-11.

INTROD UCTION:
One of the astonishing truths as
revealed to us in the Scriptures is that God has a perfect plan of Salvation for all mankind. This was clearly brought to our understanding through
the brief conversation which took place between Saul of Tarsus and the Lord Jesus Christ, when Jesus Christ
apprehended him on his way to Damascus in one of his attempts to arrest the Christians there and bring them to Jerusalem for punishment. At that very moment of his meeting with. Jesus, Saul asked, “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do ?”
This did not happen by chance, there was divine plan and purpose embedded in the encounter. This study therefore sets out to let us
understand the need to discover God’s plan for our lives.

LESSON OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of this study are to:

  1. Understand the question what will you have me to do?”
2.know the circumstances that brought about the question.
  2. know God’s response to the question and the subsequent
    instruction.
  3. know what we should do after divine encounter.
  4. knowv the lesson we can learn from Saul’s experience.

BIBLE TRUTH
Q1. WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND BY THE QUESTION “WVHAT WILL YOU HAVE ME TO DO ?” (Acts 9: 6)
The question arose from a man (Saul of Tarsus) who had the backing of and authority from the ‘powers that be’, when he encountered and surrendered to a more superior and supernatural power, by asking the Lord Jesus Christ, “what will you
have me to do?”

Q.2. WHAT WERE THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT BROUGHT
ABOUT THE QUESTION WHAT WILL YOU HAVE ME TO DO2″ (Acts 9:1-6)
Saul, a Jewish lawyer from Tarsus was persecuting the disciples of Jesus Christ after Christ’s ascension to Heaven. He went to the High Priest in Jerusalem to obtain a letter of authority to go and arrest the disciples of Jesus Christ who were in Damascus.
On his way, a light from heaven suddenly shone around him. He fell down and heard a voice that said to him, “Saul, Saul why are you
persecuting me?” And he asked. “Who are you Lord ?” The voice said I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting” He got up and asked the question
Lord, what will you have me to do?”,

Q. 3. WHAT WAS THE LORD JESUS RESPONSE TO THIS QUESTION AND
SUBESQUENT INSTRUCTION? (Acts9:6,15-16)
In response, the Lord told Saul to get up and go into the city where he would be told what to do. The
instruction that followed was that the Lord Jesus chose Saul, to be the one who will bear His name before the
Gentiles, Kings and the children of Israel, who will sufter great affliction for his faith. So God calls us to
commitment, regardless of
challenges, but He promises to be with us through it all.

Q.4. WHAT SHOULD WE DO AFTER DIVINE ENCOUNTER WITH THE LORD JESUS CHRIST? (Matt. 4: 18-22: John 4: 25-26, 28-30; 2Cor. 5: 19-20)
Sometimes believers desire and pray for divine encounter because they believe that it will result in the realization of muc h exp ected
breakthrough.
Although it could be one of it that may not be God’s purpose for every divine encounter. When we carefully go through the references to this question, we discover that the first step after each encounter is divine
commitment, which is the purpose of God. This implies that after divine encounter, We should seek for the purpose of God. “But seek ye first th
kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.(Matthew 6:33)

WHAT LESSONS
Q. 5.CAN WE LEARN FROM THE EXPERIENCE oE SAUL A S HE TO
JOURNEYED TO DAMASCUS
PERSECUTE THE CHRISTIANS?
The first lesson we can learn here is that any individual or group of people
who are against Christians are against God. We can also learn that God is always mindful of His people; He defends and protects them from their arch enemy – the devil and his
followers. The believer should always depend on God who is able, and always willing to defend those who put their trust in Him. God also
monitors the activities of all His creation, especially humans. Most importantly, We can learn that God has a plan for every human being
living on earth.

DAILY LI VING APPLICATION:
As children of God, our preoccupation is to discover what God’s plan is for us. With the knowledge that He owns us and knows who we are, our ultimate should be to live to please the Lord all the days ofour life.
