THE HUMILITY AND SUBMISSION OF JESUS

John 13:3-5 (GNB), Matthew 20:27

Jesus knew that the Father had given him complete power; he knew that he had come from God and was going to God. So he rose from the table, took off his outer garment, and tied a towel around his waist. Then he poured some water into a washbasin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel around his waist. …whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

With all of the glory and power that Jesus had, He never allowed it to stop Him from yielding and submitting Himself to serve and do the things that God the Father wanted Him to do. You must never allow your knowledge of how ‘great’ you are, to stop you from humbling yourself before God to serve and do His will. As you humble yourself under God’s mighty hand, He will exalt (increase and promote) you in due time, (1Pet.5:6).

Though Jesus was one with God the Father, He was willing to put aside His reputation and take on the form of a servant so He could come down to earth as a man. Even after coming as a man, He was willing to suffer and die a shameful death on the Cross. Right now, God the Father has highly exalted Him and given Him a name above every other name, (Phil.2:5-11). God wants us to have this same kind of mindset and attitude as we do His will and serve others.

Jesus was submitted to His earthly parents and He increased in wisdom, stature and in favour with God and man, (Luke 2:48-52). Jesus allowed John the Baptist to baptize Him. Jesus believed in submitting to the government as far as it did not mean going against God’s will, (Luke 20:22-25). Jesus paid His taxes, (Matt.17:24-27).

Prayer:
Dear Father, please help me to always humble myself and submit to the authorities you have placed over me as Jesus did.
