TOPIC: Living The Good Life (DCLM Daily Manna 3 May 2021)

TEXT: Proverbs 19:21-29

21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.

29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

KEY VERSE: “The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.” – (Proverbs 19:23)

MESSAGE:

Everyone is craving for the good life but many do not know how to go about it. There are resource centres all over our cities dedicated to teaching healthy lifestyles and the making of the good life. They instruct us to keep fit, eat well and act smart. They teach valuable lessons in creating wealth and good living. Several amounts of time and money are devoted to achieving success in this exercise. But in spite of all these, there are still rising cases of frustration, failures and harm.

The requirements and qualities that promote the good life are weightier than physical exercises. “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come” (1 Timothy 4:8). The book of Proverbs catalogues God’s blueprints and instructions for living the good life. No matter what we know or do with our body, if we do not change what is on the inside, we may not be able to live the good life (Luke 6:45).

Trusting God changes our thoughts, actions, habits and lifestyles which spare us from harm. When we become born again, the nature of God is implanted in us and we begin to trust our ways to Him. We shun wickedness, treachery, dishonesty, hatred, self-defense and refusal to accept correction from others. The grace of God produces godliness, goodness, kindness, love, obedience, selflessness and trustworthiness. More so, we are guided by God’s wisdom which empowers us to live the good life. We keep promises; pursue fairness and justice. There is no other way to living the good life than this.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Godliness is a lifetime of immunity.
