Topic: Being Part Of God’s Project (DCLM Daily Manna 4 February 2021)

Text: Nehemiah 3:1-5 (KJV)

1 Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel.

2 And next unto him builded the men of Jericho. And next to them builded Zaccur the son of Imri.

3 But the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.

4 And next unto them repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of Koz. And next unto them repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabeel. And next unto them repaired Zadok the son of Baana.

5 And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord.

Key Verse: “And next unto them repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of Koz. And next unto them repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabeel. And next unto them repaired Zadok the son of Baana” (Nehemiah 3:4).

MESSAGE:

Magnificent buildings and structures that dot the cities of the world add to their beauty and aesthetics, and make them a look-out-for by tourists. One interesting thing that most admirers of these structures often fail to remember is that the buildings did not just spring out from the ground. They were built and became what they are because everyone who had a part in their development played their roles well.

The focus of the passage was the reconstruction of the long-abandoned wall around the city of Jerusalem. Everyone saw the need to raise the walls again after Nehemiah challenged them. Although the task was enormous with the threats of enemies lurking around, the spiritual leaders and elders of the people identified themselves with the work. However, a few of them thought that they were too noble and dignified to get their hands soiled by the activity. To their shame and eternal loss, the work was done in spite of their aloofness.

Today, there is an on-going project in the kingdom of God and you have an assigned portion of it. Your task may be different from others; it does not matter. What matters is that the task is done. So, whether yours is to teach, lead, care, sing, pray, etc., endeavour to put your best into finishing it.

No doubt, those who took part in building the masterpieces of the various cities of the world today hold up their heads in pride and are thankful for the opportunity to get involved. The feeling is greater for those who played their part in the project of God’s kingdom.

Thought For The Day: Being part of the Kingdom building project is a priceless privilege.
