 Your Top Priority

“So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.” Acts 14:23

Your top priority in life should be to pray. In the book of Acts it is clear that the driving force behind the early church was prayer. In Acts 2, the people were praying continuously when the Holy Spirit fell in the upper room. In Acts 3, Peter and John were on their way to the temple at the hour of prayer when they encountered a lame man. The church was praying and the power of God healed the man and he stood up and walked! In Acts 4, the church met for prayer and the Bible says, “The place where they were assembled was shaken.” In Acts 5, the church prayed and God spoke for them to send out Paul and Barnabas. In Acts 10, revival came to the Gentiles when Cornelius was praying at his house and Peter was praying on his rooftop. All throughout the book of Acts, we see the people praying before doing anything else. And after each time of prayer, something powerful was born.

Jesus’ last words to His followers were, “Go out into all the world and make disciples.” You would think the disciples would have ran and grabbed their suitcases, but Jesus had taught them the principle of placing priority on prayer. One scripture says, “As was His custom, he went to a place and prayed.” Every single day the disciples had watched Jesus go to His place of prayer before He worked any miracles. They learned from His example that the power of prayer is what gives legs to everything God calls you to do. Before you make any decision or start any endeavor, pray! Moving forward without prayer is like paddling against the current. Make sure you are flowing in God’s power and watch with amazement what He will do!
