The Lion In The Street (Part 2)

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 

In Proverbs 22:13, the lazy man says, “There is a lion in the street.” He is saying,g “I can’t do the work. I can’t go after the dream. I can’t go to college. The task is too difficult for me, and I will fail if I try.” This way of thinking is not from God. You are more than an overcomer; you serve a God who has defeated even death itself! There is nothing that intimidates Him; therefore, there is nothing that should scare you.

Refuse to live under the bondage of excuses. Many people give up before they even try. They may want to change and become a follower of Jesu, but they have a belief that it’s just impossible. The enemy loves to create an imaginary problem to justify staying in the place of defeat. You need to be free from your fears, inhibitions, doubts, and unholy imaginations because they will hold you back. They will defeat you and rob you of God’s will for your life if you let them. Stop justifying failure in your life. If you want to be free, you can get free. God can make that happen if you want to be a better person. If you want to have joy, it is yours for the taking. Pray today that God will slay the “lions” in your life and keep you where you are. Go to the Word of God and use it to fight for your future and dreams. Fight for your freedom because Jesus already purchased it at Calvary. Most of the time, the limiting beliefs we have aren’t even true, and the ones that are can still be conquered with Jesus in your corner. 

Intimidation and fear make us live in excuses. In 1 Kings 1,8, Elijah had just confronted 450 false prophets of Baal who ate at Jezebel’s table. He challenged them with great boldness to a showdown. Elijah told them to call on their Go, and he would call on his. The God who came in the form of fire and burned the offering was the true God. That took guts and confidence! The Lord showed up, and it was a monumental moment of victory for Elijah. But, in the very next chapter, Jezebel threatened to kill him, and he fled and went into hiding! 1 Kings 19:4 says, “He came to a broom bush, sat down under it, and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.’” 

God replied to Elijah’s defeated attitude, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” The Lord’s response was powerful, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Being in God’s presence was enough to get Elijah back on his feet and into God’s will again. When you are terrified to make a move, intimate time spent with God can change everything. If you have been hiding in a place of fear, let God set you free today. The best is still to come!
