The Power of Prayer (Part 2)

“Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!” Psalms 116:2

When we mix our pain, struggles, and disappointments with prayer we become who God wants us to be. Jesus prayed until his tears were like blood. He took all his fears and mixed them with prayer until God made Him into who He was destined to be. God will mold, shape, and mature you in seasons of prayer. Your pain may be necessary to form you into a vessel that can be used for His glory. You have to decide not to let the hard things that come against you or your family cause you to separate from God. Those times should draw you closer to God than ever before. Sometimes your confusion is necessary. Mix your brokenness with prayer and it will cause you to become all that He wants you to be. Match the intensity of your hardship with the intensity of your prayers.

There was an evangelist from Cambodia who told a story about a remote village who had never heard the gospel of Jesus before. They had never even heard Jesus’ name at all, but when he went there and preached in one service the entire village got saved. The people were broken and weeping and the evangelist could not understand why they were so receptive. But then one of them said, “We have been waiting on you for years.”

He told what happened: “During the rule of Hopod there was a great slaughter. Soldiers went around village to village killing anyone who resisted him. The troops arrived to our village and they dug a huge ditch and lined us up to stand over it. The soldiers lifted their guns preparing to shoot us one by one. But when they put the pistol to the first woman’s head, she screamed out as loud as she could, ‘Oh God that died by execution, save me!’ She had heard somewhere about a God who died by execution. She didn’t know the name of Jesus or anything about the Bible but she cried out to God with all she knew. The gun shot never fired. After a few minutes the people turned around and discovered that the soldiers had fled!” He said, “Ever since then we have prayed to the god of the execution. We didn’t know His name, or His story. We had just heard that there was a God who had been executed and then you came and told us about how Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us.” When we cry out to God in prayer, He hears us.
