Fasting For Your Breakthrough

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

After the American Civil War, Abraham Lincoln called for four separate fasts to try to heal the nation. The war had left the nation in shambles. Poverty was everywhere. The next year after Lincoln finished the fourth fast America closed a real estate deal with Russia for Alaska for $7.2 million, which is two cents per acre. There’s no logic whatsoever that can explain why America rebounded so strong. And by 1867 the federal government of the United States had a surplus for 28 straight years in a row!  

New inventions started coming out of America that caused the nation to become a major super-power in the world. After they fasted, the next year inventions like the phonograph, the electric light, the modern factories, airplanes, and telephones were created. Even though the cars were invented first in Europe, somehow America dominated that market. America suddenly became a major player on the world stage.  

The most devastated area during the Civil War was the South. And in the 1800s, a miracle started to happen and the New South was birthed. Birmingham began to prosper, then Richmond, and even Atlanta, which had been burned to the ground by fire. And in the early 1800s, an invention of a soda pop called Coca-Cola was made and their headquarters are still in Atlanta today. God knows how to bless His people when we put Him first. Seek first the kingdom of God. Seek God first and all of these things- abundance of work, health, blessing, family, all of these things will be added unto you. But seek Him first.  

You may be wondering, what is fasting? Fasting is abstaining from food for spiritual purpose. It’s a time when you go to your refrigerator and say, “You won’t be seeing me for a few days because there’s some things that I want more than food.” Are there some things that you want more than food this New Year? Do you need to see God move in your home, marriage, or family? Are you tired of wrestling with situations that seem like they’ll never change? Maybe it feels like they just won’t budge and you’ve hit a wall. In Mark 9 Jesus gave the answer to your dilemma. He said, “This kind cometh out but by prayer and fasting.” In other words, there are some breakthroughs that will never come until you enter into doing more than praying. When you get desperate enough to stop eating and seek His help, help will come. He may not answer everything in the way you wish but you will start to trust that His plans for you are good as you come into more of an awareness of His limitless love for you.
