MEMORISE: And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. – Luke 12:15
READ: Luke 12:15-20
- And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
- And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
- And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
- And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
- And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
- But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
MESSAGE:
Many people spend their time and energy on acquiring wealth and material things, but today’s memory verse tells us that the worth or value of a man’s life does not depend on the material things that he has.
The rich man in today’s Bible reading had a good business that earned him a lot of money. After making so much money, he thought that it was time to enjoy his life. However, he forgot that hard work without involving God, his Source, is foolishness. Riches, affluence, and fame are good, but they should never define you as a child of God. Having lots of material possessions without Christ is not life. Life is so much more than having expensive things and acquiring wealth; the true essence of life is affecting lives positively. Your focus should be on the things that propagate the gospel of Christ, and you should be determined to win souls for the kingdom.
Beloved, if you do not see life as you should, you will waste so much time, effort, and money.
REFLECTION:
Are you on the right track to living a good and worthy life?
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Daniel 1:1-2:23, 1 Peter 3:8-4:6
HYMN 58: My Hope Is Built On Nothing Else
1 My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
2 When darkness seems to veils His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]
3 His oath, His covenant, and blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]
4 When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]
