Topic: Love Is Unquenchable [Open Heavens for Teens 4 June 2019]

Memorise: “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.” – Song of Solomon 8:7

Read: Song of Solomon 8:6-7

  1. Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.
  2. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

Bible In One Year: 2 Chronicles 13-16, John 14

MESSAGE:

Although it is difficult to effectively define love, it is clear that love involves very powerful emotions. Solomon was a beneficiary of God’s love and he writes that love is equal to death in terms of strength in Song of Solomon 8:6. Death and live have a sense of finality associated with them. Those who really know what love is are always afraid of ‘falling in love’ because once you really love someone, it does not matter what that fellow does, your love for that person never dies.

Floods of adversity and difficulty cannot quench love. In Romans 8:38-39, Paul says nothing and nobody can stop the love of God from flowing to us. When you are genuinely in love, it will be a thing of pleasure to make sacrifices for the one you love. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were ready to die in the fire out of their love for God. A teenage girl in Northern Nigeria refused to deny her Christian faith when she was abducted by terrorists last year. That is true love. Do you love God to the extent of dying for Him? Do you sacrifice your time and property for Him? Do you genuinely love God?

Prayer Point:
Father, please help me to love you without holding back anything

Hymn 10:

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
    O what peace we often forfeit,
    O what needless pain we bear,
    All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged;
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    Can we find a Friend so faithful?
    Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
    Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer.
    Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
    You wilt find a solace there.
