RCCG LOWER JUNIOR ZEAL FOR 2022/2023
AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 14TH OF MAY, 2023
LESSON THIRTY SEVEN (37)
TOPIC: GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT

BIBLE TEXT: Ephesians 4:25-32
[25]Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
[26]Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
[27]Neither give place to the devil.
[28]Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
[29]Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
[30]And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
[31]Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
[32]And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 63:10 “But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.

LESSON AIM: The children will discover and discuss the attitudes that grieve the Holy Spirit

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to confess and turn away from things that grieve the Holy Spirit.

INTRODUCTION:
Children! Do you know that when you are sad because you have lost a loved one is called grief? During the time of grief, during that time, you will find out that you cannot carry out regular activities because your minds and emotions are consumed with the grieving process. When the grieving is over, your mind and emotions will come back to normal. God put the Holy Spirit in our lives to do important things but when we sin, we grieve the Holy Spirit that He can not do the regular activities in our lives.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT: EPHESIANS 4:25-32

  1. God said, speak the truth to every man and put away lying because you are members of one another.
  2. You can be angry and not commit sin.
  3. Do not sleep on your anger.
  4. Lying and anger will give the devil the opportunity to have a foothold in your life.
  5. You should not stea or let evil communications come out of your mouth.
  6. Your speech should minister grace and edify others.
  7. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit

GOSPEL CONNECTION: When we sin, the Holy Spirit must direct His attention to convicting us of our sins so that we will repent of it and get right with God. Repenting is confessing our sins and believing that Jesus died for your sins and rose again on the third day and you have accepted Him into your life as Lord and Saviour.

CLIMAX: Put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, outburst., evil speaking, and malice.

CONCLUSION: Be kind, tenderhearted, and forgive one another even as God has forgiven you for the sake of Christ.

CHALLENGE: As a child who already trusts in Jesus as Lord and Saviour, are you currently doing any of the things we talked about? If so, they are grieving the Holy Spirit and preventing themselves from growing in Christ. Are you willing to confess your sins and turn away from those sinful behaviors?
Bow down your heads and let us talk to God right now.

INVITATION: The only way not to grieve the Holy Spirit is to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
