LESSON SEVEN (7)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 5: GOVERNMENT

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Timothy 2:1-6

MEMORY VERSE: Romans 13:1- “Let every soul be subject unto higher power, for there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”

LESSON AIM: To let the children know the need to obey rules and regulations of their countries.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Prayer for your government is a way to express gratitude.

INTRODUCTION: 0ne of the ways to express gratitude as Christians is through prayer. God has commanded us to pray for everyone in authority this includes people in government like, our President, Ministers, Governors to mention but a few.

STUDY GUIDE
A. HOW TO SHOW GRATITUDE TO GOVERNMENT
1 Make supplication for those in government.

  1. Give thanks on their behalf.
  2. Pray for their salvation.
  3. Pray that they come into the knowledge of the truth.
  4. Obey the rules of the land.
  5. Be patriotic.
  6. Protection of public property
  7. Respect people in authority.
  8. Be a good ambassador.
  9. Speak positively about the country.

B. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT SHOW GRATITUDE TO THOSE IN GOVERNMENT

  1. Ezra- Ezra 7:6
  2. Nehemiah- Nehemiah 2:1
  3. Apostle Paul- Acts 25:12
  4. Apostle Peter- Matthew 17:24-27
  5. Jesus Christ- Matthew 1 7:24-27

C. WAYS THAT SHOW WE ARE NOT SHOWING GRATITUDE TO THE GOVERNMENT OF OUR NATION

  1. Dumping of refuse on roads
  2. Destroying government properties
  3. Speaking bad about our government
  4. Living a dishonest life
  5. Not praying for them.

CONCLUSION: Those in government are also servants of God to do us good in the nation.

INVITATION: As children of God, we can make those in government to do the will of God by praying for them.

LIFE APPLICATION: Obey the rules of the land that is not against God will and be honest with other citizens of the country.

LESSON EIGHT (8)
TOPIC: QUALITIES OF A GRATEFUL HEART 1: HOLY SPIRIT FILLED

BIBLE TEXT: Acts 2:1-4

MEMORY VERSE: Acts 4:31: And when they prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke the word of God with boldness.

LESSON AIM: To understand the characteristics of the Holy Spirit filled life.

CENTRAL TRUTH: The Holy Spirit filled life is a life of exploits.

INTRODUCTION: The Holy Spirit is the spirit of excellence – Daniel 5:11-12, those filled with the spirit of God are empowered to do exploits in all areas of their endeavour. Exodus 31:1-5– Bezaliel, the son of Uri was filled with the Holy Spirit to design the vessels used in the temple of God. Also in Acts 10:38 Jesus Christ was filled with Holy Ghost and power to go about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the Devil. May we receive the infill of the Holy Spirit to day in Jesus name.

A. EXAMPLE OF THOSE WHO WERE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

  1. Jesus Christ was filled with the Holy spirit -Mathew 3:16, Acts 10:38.
  2. Believers at Pentecost were filled with the Holy Spirit- Acts 2:1-4.
  3. The Samaritans Christians were also filled with the Holy Spirit – Acts 8:17.
  4. Cornelius and his household were filled with the Holy Spirit- Acts 10:44-46.
  5. The Ephesians’ believers were filled with the Holy Spirit- Acts 19:6-7.

B. WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A SPIRIT FILLED LIFE?

  1. Manifestation of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit -Galatians 5:22-23.
  2. Manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit -1 Corinthian 12:1-11.
  3. Manifestation of the seven dimensional Spirit of God -Isaiah 11:2-3
  4. Ability to excel in all areas of life – Genesis 39:2-5; Daniel 5:9-12; Daniel 6:1-3.

C. HOW CAN ONE BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT?

  1. Repentant from sin -Acts 2:38; Acts 10:44
  2. Thirst after righteousness– Mathew 5:6
  3. Accept the promise of the Holy Spirit- Joel 2:28; Acts 2:38–39
  4. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and have faith in God- Mathew 7:8; Luke 11:9-13.
  5. Confess that you have received the Holy Spirit and act on it – Mark 11:24; James 2:17.

LIFE APPLICATION: Supernatural Breakthroughs and exploits in life can only be achieved through the power of the Holy Spirit.

CONCLUSION: When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you will bear fruit of the Spirit and manifest the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 and 1 Corinthians 12:1-end.

INVITATION: The Holy Spirit can only fill those who repent from their sins and surrendered their lives to Jesus.

  1. Mention examples of a Holy Spirit filled life.
  2. State 4 Characteristics of a Holy Spirit filled life.
  3. How can we be Spirit Filled?

LESSON NINE (09)
TOPIC: QUALITIES OF A GRATEFUL HEART 2: HUMILITY

BIBLE TEXT: Daniel 4:35-37

MEMORY VERSE: James 4:10 “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up”

LESSON AIM: God wants His children to be humbled.

CHILD RELATED TRUTH:A grateful heart is always humble.

INTRODUCTION: A king called Nebuchadnezzar was a very proud King. His
pride made God become very cross with him and God punished him for seven years. After seven years King Nebuchadnezzar became very humble and began to glorify God. To avoid God’s wrath, ensure you are humble in all you do.

STUDY GUIDE
A. WHAT IS HUMILITY?
Humility is defined as a personal quality in which an individual shows dependence on God and respect for other person. Not proud or. haughty: not arrogant or assertive. Acts 20:19; Proverbs 18:12

B. QUALITIES OF HUMBLE PERSON

  1. They trust in God.
  2. They are thankful.
  3. They are grateful to God for His goodness and grace
  4. They rejoice with others
  5. They practice unity.
  6. They are not wise in their own eyes. Proverbs 3:7
  7. They forgive quickly because they have been forgiven much.
  8. They are teachable
  9. They build others up. Ephesians 4:29
  10. They have servant hearts. Galatians 5:13-14

C. WHY SHOULD ONE BE HUMBLE?

  1. Because god loves and delights in the humble – 1 Peter 5:5, Psalm 51:17.
  2. God will be nigh to you. Psalm 34:18, Isaiah 57:15.
  3. God loves the humble. Micah 6:8, Colossian 3:12.
  4. it brings riches, honour and life. Proverbs 22:4, Proverbs 29:23.
  5. If we are humble, God will exalt us – Mathew 23:12, Luke 1:52
  6. God gives the humble true wisdom – Proverbs 11:2, 1 Corinthian 3:18.
  7. The humble is the greatest in God’s kingdom Mathew 18:4, Mark 10:45, Luke 22:26.

D. WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF BEING PROUD?

  1. Pride makes us rebels before God-Nehemiah 9:16-17, 29.
  2. God resist the proud and gives grace to the humble- James 4:6, Psalm. 138:6.
  3. Pride bring about down fall of the proud – Proverbs 16:18, Proverbs 29:23, Ezekiel 28:12-17, Daniel 4:18-21.
  4. Pride leads to destruction-Proverbs 16:18.
  5. Pride leads to rejection by God- James 4:6.

CONCLUSION: Gratitude is the overflow of a humble heart

INVITATION: You can only be humble if you have surrender your life to Jesus Christ.

LIFE APPLICATION: Don’t allow God to punish you like king Nebuchadnezzar before you will humble yourself before Him.

LESSON TEN (10)
TOPIC: QUALITIES OF A GRATEFUL HEART 3: A WITNESS OF THE GOSPEL.

BIBLE TEXT: Daniel 4:35-37

MEMORY VERSE: Acts 3:8 “And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God”

LESSON AIM: God is passionate about soul winning

CENTRAL TRUTH: A grateful heart talks about the goodness of God everywhere.

INTRODUCTION: There was a lame man that received his healing. Once he did, with so much joy and excitement, he was leaping, praising God, and telling everyone in the temple about how he received his healing. He became a witness of the gospel. God expects us to exhibit the same attitude as the lame man, when sharing all that God has done for us.

STUDY GUIDE
A. WHAT IS WITNESSING?

  1. Telling others about the love of God. (John 3:16)
  2. Assuring them that God has solution to their sinful nature (Romans 6:23)
  3. Telling others how Jesus gave His life blood for their sins to be forgiven (Hebrews 9:22)
    4 Assuring others of their salvation (Hebrews 13:5-6)

B. WHY SHOULD I WITNESS TO ALL

  1. To save souls from eternal death- Proverbs 14:25; James 5:26.
  2. To obey the command given by our Lord Jesus Christ – Mathew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-17.
  3. To avoid the punishment of God for disobeying him -Ezekiel 3:17-19.
  4. To avoid being denied by Jesus Christ before God -Luke 12:8-9.
  5. To activate joy in heaven when a sinner repents. Luke 15:10

C. HOW TO WITNESS CHRIST TO OUR FRIENDS
We can preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our friends through the following means.

  1. Letter writing.
  2. Use of postal card.
  3. Face to face discussion.
  4. Sharing Gospel videos with each other.
  5. Sending Gospel messages to your friends
  6. We need to witness to others about the love of God in Christ Jesus.
  7. Let your character show that you are a disciple of Christ.
  8. Show kindness to people in the name of Christ.
  9. Help the poor and needy.

D. BENEFITS OF WITNESSING

  1. You will be more productive-John 15:2
  2. You will be protected by God-Mark 16:15-17
  3. You will receive answer to prayer-John 15:1-7, 16
  4. You will shine as star forever-Daniel 12:3

CONCLUSION: God is glorified when we witness to people and win souls to His kingdom.

LIFE APPLICATION: Go ye therefore and make Disciples of All Nations.

INVITATION: You cannot save others if you are not saved. Give your life to Jesus Christ today.

LESSON ELEVEN (11)
TOPIC: QUALITIES OF A GRATEFUL HEART 4: A TESTIFIER OF GOD’S WONDERFUL WORKS

BIBLE TEXT: Psalms 107:8,15,21,31

MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 15:11 – who is like thee, glorious in holiness fearful in praise, doing wonders?

LESSON AIM: To learn about the wonderful works of God.

CENTRAL TRUTH: 0ur God is a wonders working God.

INTRODUCTION: One of the greatest weapon we can use to overcome Satan is our testimonies Revelation 12:11. When we testify about the goodness of God, we provoke more of His wonderful works in ur lives.
In Luke 17:12-19 ten lepers were cleans, but only one of them returned back to testify about the wonderful work of God and his healing was perfected. Testimony put a seal on the blessings of God upon an individual. May God make us testifiers of His wonderful works in Jesus name.

STUDY GUIDE
A. HOW TO GENERATE TESTIMONIES

  1. Possess a heart of gratitude towards God-Psalm 100:4.
  2. Record al that God has done for you in the past-Isaiah 8:16.
  3. Bring them to your remembrance-Psalm 119:95.
  4. Meditate on them-Psalm 77:12.
  5. Make His wonderful deeds known to the nations of the earth-Psalm 77:12.

B. WAYS TO TESTIFY TO GOD’S WONDER

  1. By Singing.
  2. By Preaching the good news.
  3. By Impacting life.
  4. By Testifying about God’s faithfulness.
  5. Witnessing Christ to unbelievers.
  6. Giving testimony of God’s wonders in our lives.

C. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE TESTIFY ABOUT THE WONDERFUL WORKS OF GOD

  1. Your Blessing is preserved- Luke 11:12-19.
  2. Your miracles is perfected -Luke 17:12-19.
  3. You provoke more of God’s wonderful works -2Chronicles 20:20-25.
  4. You become an overcomer- Revelation 12:11.

D. ENEMIES OF TESTIMONIES

  1. Murmuring and Complains – 1Corinthians 10:10-11, Number 11:11.
  2. Hopelessness.
  3. Following other gods.
  4. Lack of Joy – Joel 1:12.

LIFE APPLICATION: Count your blessings and name them one by one, then you wil see the wonderful works of God.

CONCLUSION: What God has done for us, we cannot tell it all.

INVITATION: Tell others about His acts in your life.
