SUMMARY OF LESSONS 20-24
LESSON TWENTY (20)
TOPIC: SIN
BIBLE TEXT: Romans 6:23, Romans 3:23-25.

MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God and your sins have hidden His face from you that He will not hear.

LESSON AIM: To make Teens understand that sin separates a man from God.

CENTRAL TRUTH: No sinner can have a good relationship with God.

INTRODUCTION: A minister told his congregation, “Next week, I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17.”
The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Several hands went up. The minister smiled and said, “Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying.”

STUDY GUIDE
A. WHAT IS SIN?
Sin is any action that harms the relationship we have with God and/or another person. It is choosing to act in a way that pulls us away from God. He designed us to respond to Him in a way that is in agreement with His nature. Sin breaks that connection, refuses that gift, and rejects God.

According to James 4:17, ‘Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin”.

B. WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN?

  1. Death – “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”- Romans 6:23.
  2. Separation from God – Isaiah 59:2.
  3. Displeasure of God – Psalm 5:4.
  4. Destruction-Matthew 7:13

C.WHY DOES GOD HATE SIN? GOD HATES SIN BECAUSE:

  1. He is holy and holiness is His most exalted attribute – Isaiah 6:3.
  2. Sin blinds us to the truth – Matthew 15:14.
  3. Sin lessens our love for God-1 John 2:15-16, James 4:4

LIFE APPLICATION: People who die in sin – unforgiven, are separated forever from God. He cannot take them into His Holy presence unless their sin is removed. Unfortunately, there is no repentance in the grave, contrary to what some people say to deceive others, that they can still confess their sins after they have died.

INVITATION: Have you confessed your sins to God, asking Him to forgive them? Do it now, so He can save you!

CONCLUSION: Sin offends God. As God is holy, He cannot Ignore, excuse or tolerate sin as if it does not matter. Sin cuts man off from God, erecting a wall to isolate sinners from Him.

LESSON TWENTY-ONE (21)
TOPIC: WHO ARE YOU?
BIBLE TEXTS: 1 Peter 2:9, Genesis 1:26-27.

MEMORY VERSE: Genesis 1:26 – “And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth”.

LESSON AIM: At the end of the study, teenagers should be able to understand who they are in Christ.

CENTRAL TRUTH: In Christ you are an amazing gift to the whole world.

INTRODUCTION: We have a lot of teenagers suffering from identity crisis because they do not recognize their identity in Christ; they are easily tossed and turned by the wiles of the devil and the vices of society. God did not create you to be weak or confused, neither are you supposed to allow situations, circumstances or people determine who you are. God created you to dominate and rule the earth but you cannot rule over anything if you do not have an understanding of your identity, authority and heritage in Him, as well as the very essence of His person to you. God is not only our Lord, He is our Father too, and He loves us unconditionally.

LESSON TWENTY-TWO (22)
TOPIC: MENTAL HEALTH
BIBLE TEXT: Psalm 119:97-100.

MEMORY VERSE: Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”.

LESSON AIM: At the end of this study, teens should know about mental health and why it is necessary to avoid anything that could affect it negatively.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Meditating on God’s word improves our mental health.

INTRODUCTION: The word ‘mental’ describes anything that has to do with the mind. The “mind” is not the same as the brain. Our brain has all the wiring, storage, memory and processing power we need to function as a human being. The mind consists of mental states such as thoughts, emotions, beliefs, attitudes, and images. The brain is the hardware and the mind is the software. It’s the operating system that gathers, stores and manages information.
There are three key points to note from Psalm 119: 97: loving, obeying and meditating on God’s word. Doing these regularly will improve our mental wellbeing.

STUDY GUIDE
A. HOW TO HAVE AND MAINTAIN GOOD MENTAL HEALTH:

  1. Philippians 4:6-7 Prayer, supplication and thanksgiving
  2. Proverbs 4:23-Keep your heart with all diligence
  3. Pray (both in your understanding and in the Spirit) 2 Corinthians 10:5
  4. Romans 12:1-2 keep your body holy and never conform to this world, but keep on renewing your mind with the Word of God.
  5. Isaiah 26:3-Let your mind stay on God and trust Him.
  6. Be happy always – Proverbs 17:22, Proverbs 15:13.
  7. 1 Peter 5:8-Be sober and be vigilant.
  8. Be careful what you feed your mind with. Joshua 1:8

B. FROM OUR TEXT, MENTION 3 BENEFITS OF MENTAL WELLNESS AND EXPLAIN WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT THEM:

  1. Greater wisdom than your enemies
  2. More understanding than your teachers
  3. More understanding than the ancients

ACTIVITY: Have the Teenagers mention other benefits of mental wellbeing.

LIFE APPLICATION: Meditate on this verse and apply it, then you will see it working for you: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8).

CONCLUSION: Daniel 1:20-“And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm”. You too can be like Daniel if you will observe to do all the things discussed today.

LESSON TWENTY-THERE (23)
TOPIC: SEXUAL PURITY
BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 39:1-12

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Corinthians 6:20 – “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

LESSON AIM: To enable teenagers to know how to keep their bodies pure.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost.

INTRODUCTION: A temple is a sacred place of worship, thus, we find ourselves trying not to do certain things in the temple. For instance, when going to Church, some of us dress in a certain way, we try not to use foul language, we are told not to litter the floor and some dirty acts are not carried out simply because we are in Church. As children of God, we are a church building, i.e., in as much as we keep those rules in church to honour God, the same is expected of our body because the Almighty God dwells within us. We are expected to watch our words, thoughts, actions, etc., to keep God’s dwelling place holy and clean for Him to stay.

STUDY GUIDE:
A. HOW SHOULD I KEEP MY BODY PURE?

  1. Dedicate your bodies to God- Romans 12:1-2.
  2. Discipline your bodies – Romans 6:11-13.
  3. Shun immorality and sexual sins -1 Corinthians6:18-20, Genesis39:9.
  4. Flee from all appearances of evil-1 Thessalonians5:22, Genesis39:12.
  5. Avoid having boyfriends and girlfriends, as this could lead to immorality.
  6. Avoid immorality from the internet and social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.

B. WHY SHOULD I MAINTAIN SEXUAL PURITY?

  1. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit – 1 Corinthians 6:19.
  2. You were bought with a price – 1 Corinthians 6:20.
  3. To avoid diseases and dangers of sexual sins

C. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE ENGAGE IN SEXUALSIN?
i. It leads to destruction of the soul – Proverbs 6:32-33.
ii. God’s divine judgement – Romans 1:24.
iii. Destruction of the body – I Corinthians 6:18-20.
iv. Terminal and incurable sicknesses and diseases e.g. HIV/AIDS, STDs.

LIFE APPLICATION: Every human being is created by the Almighty God for the sole purpose of worshipping Him. Worshipping God does not stop at attending Church Services, but our whole life is expected to worship Him. As children of God, we are expected to flee anything that will pollute this temple our body, such as sexual immorality, fornication, lesbianism, etc and any sin that the world accepts as a normal lifestyle.

DISCUSSION: Let the Teenagers mention various sexual sins and why they feel that such acts are not good before God.

CONCLUSION: As children of God, we have been purchased with a price, which is the Blood of Jesus. Therefore, honour God with your body – 1 Corinthians 6:20.

LESSON TWENTY-FOUR (24)
TOPIC: SELFLESS SERVICE
BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 22:37-39

MEMORY VERSE: Daniel 3:18 – “But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”

LESSON AIM: To teach the Teens the need to render selfless service to God and humanity.

CENTRAL TRUTH: God created us to be blessings to people.

INTRODUCTION: Selfless service can be called “dedication and commitment” to something without expecting anything in return. It is the willingness and readiness to serve, and it is very important, not for any gain, but because you believe in it. It is very important to render selfless service in various aspects of our lives: to our families, the Church, school, neighbors, friends, and in all that we do and say sometimes. However, the Bible makes us understand that the chief commitment of our lives is to God Himself – Matthew 22:37-38.

STUDY GUIDE
A. How to render selfless service to God?

  1. Make Him your one and only God – Exodus 20:3, Matthew 6:24.
  2. Acknowledge Him in all your ways – Proverbs 3:5-6.
  3. Get committed in Church and in things that have to do with God’s Kingdom.
  4. Be willing to give your time, energy, money, and possessions to serve God with all your heart, and without expecting anything in return.
  5. Never do anything with eye service; do all things to the glory of God – Ephesians 6:6, 1 Corinthians 10:31.
  6. Don’t sell your talents to God because He gave them to you in the first place to serve Him.

B. How to render selfless service to People

  1. Show love to people – Matthew 22:37-38.
  2. Be a blessing to others by helping them.

C. Benefits of being dedicated and committed to God

  1. Your plans will be established.
  2. God will always be with you – Daniel 3:25.
  3. He will never forget you – Psalm 37:28.
  4. According to the law of sowing and reaping, God will be committed to you too.
  5. God will make you a blessing to the world.
  6. You will not miss your reward in heaven if you stay true to God – John 14:2-3.

LIFE APPLICATION: Every facet of our lives must be centered on loving and serving the Lord. He created us for this very purpose. Therefore, because He did not hold anything back from us – John 3:16, we must hold nothing back from Him. Jesus said our commitment to Him must supersede our commitment to even our families – Luke 14:26-27.

INVITATION: The best thing to do is to dedicate your life to God and use the gifts and talents given to you to serve Him and be a blessing to others. Draw closer to Him, and He will take you higher.

DISCUSSION:

  1. Is it right to sell our talents to God?
  2. How can one sell his or her talents to God?
  3. How can we render selfless service to God and others?

CONCLUSION: Mark 12:30 says the first commandment is that we love the Lord with all our heart, and with all our soul and with all our mind and with all our strength. For us to show that we love Him, it must be evident in our dedication and commitment to kingdom matters. The Lord, and even other people, expect that we live altruistic and generous lives with the gifts we have been given.
