SUNDAY 12TH OF MAY, 2024
LESSON THIRTY SEVEN (37)
TOPIC: BENEFITS OF A GRATEFUL HEART
VICTORY OVER CHALLENGES OF LIFE

BIBLE TEXT: LUKE 7:36-50
[36]And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.
[37]And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
[38]And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
[39]Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
[40]And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
[41]There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
[42]And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
[43]Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
[44]And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
[45]Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
[46]My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
[47]Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
[48]And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
[49]And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
[50]And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

MEMORY VERSE: I Corinthians 15:57 “But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”.

LESSON AIM: God gives you victory over life challenges as you thank Him for who He is.

CHILD RELATED TRUTH: Always thank God for taken over your battles and giving you victory

INTRODUCTION: God can never lose any battle and He promised to take over your battles as long as you keep appreciating Him. Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace. Whether small or big challenges, God is there to give you victory, so make sure you are grateful to Him.

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS:
A. Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him, and He went to the Pharisees’s house and sat down to eat.

B. And behold a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisees’s house brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil. (The woman is a sinner, the Bible tells us that we are all born in sin. What is Sin? Anything you think, say or do that displeases God. The punishment of sin is death. Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23. Example of sin: Lying, fighting, stealing etc. God loves you and wants you save from your sin so He gave His son Jesus John 3:16. Jesus died and rose again so you can have your sin forgiven Hebrew 9:13-14, 226).

C. She stood at Jesus feet, behind Him weeping and began to wash Jesus feet with her tear and wiped them with hair of her head and she kissed Jesus feet and anoint them with the fragrant oil. (She showed Jesus gratitude by doing all of that because she know that Jesus is Lord and the Savior of the world. You too what can you do to show gratitude to God? Let children mention ways they can show God gratitude.)

D. Now when the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this, he spoke to himself saying “This man if He were a prophet would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner”.

E. Jesus answered and said to him “Simon I have something to say to you”, so he said “Teacher say it”. Vs 40.

F. Jesus told Simon a parable of two debtors one owe five hundred denarri and the other fifty, both were forgiven, who should love the creditor more and he answered the one that owe more and Jesus said you have rightly answered Vs 41-43.

G. Jesus told Simon, how the woman has cared for Him which Simon did not do Vs 44-45.

CLIMAX: Jesus said to Simon that the woman sins that are many are forgiven because she loves much “But to whom little is given the same loves little”. (God has given so much of His love to you by giving you His beloved son Jesus Christ to die for your sin therefore you ought to love Him much with a grateful heart).

CONCLUSION: Then Jesus said to the woman “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace” (Jesus pronounced peace over all the woman life challenges she receive victory over them all. When you show God a grateful heart over your battles).

CHALLENGE: Always give gratitude to God so you can win all your battles and have victory over all challenges of life.

INVITATION: To have victory over al battles of life you need Jesus as your Saviour. Receive Him today. Romans 10:13.
